I’ve been knitting, sewing and creating all of my life, however, the sock knitting bug got me a few years ago when my husband’s aunt told me how simple it was to turn a ball of yarn into a perfectly fitted pair of socks. I had a go and I was hooked…to be honest it became a happy addiction.
I knitted socks for friends and family trying all sorts of yarn, different patterns and I loved thinking about who I was knitting for as the needles clicked. During 2020 in lockdown, I knitted for those I loved, I posted ” foot cuddles” across the miles when we didn’t meet up because we wanted to keep each other safe.
I’ve had lots of commissions for ” special” feet, those that are extra narrow, extra wide or are deemed unusual shapes for all sorts of reasons and the satisfaction of making someone’s feet comfortable, warm, snug or able to wear their favourite style of footwear is huge.
I launched UNISOX to celebrate the differences and similarities in our legs and feet…they work so hard for us they deserve to be properly cared for.
I also believe that whatever size and shape your feet are they can be dressed in any colour or style. Adult size 12 in pink and orange stripes? No problem. Adult size 3 in rainbow colours with cloud cuffs? That’s fine by me.
All of my socks are now created using 75% wool/25% acrylic which means they keep their shape, keep your feet cosy in cold weather and cool on warmer days and are machine washable. It can be tricky to source suitable wool, where possible I buy locally and try to use yarns made without air miles.
I also offer a free sock darning service when you buy a pair, to make them last even longer…the record so far is a pair my sock mentor made me 12 years ago and are still going strong.

I knit socks everywhere, traveling (on trains, buses…in the car …when I’m not driving!), indoors, outdoors but mostly in my comfy armchair in my home in Argyll. My socks themselves are spread across the globe and are now worn in 3 continents and have traveled many miles including the final leg of the Round The World Clipper Race in 2024.
