As a long-term Argyll resident, I’ve been researching and writing my books for around twenty years now and have always been interested in obscure local history. My late dad was a police constable, so I grew up almost surrounded by true crime books, and when I was doing some local history research many years ago, I kept coming across references to a gang of highwaymen who haunted the roads of Argyll. No-one had put their (or more importantly their victim’s) stories into print though, so I thought I’d have a go, and the rest as they say, is history. My books are all perfectly true, all within Argyll, and written so as to be readable by locals and visitors alike. I site-visit for all the crimes I describe, and work from original trial notes, using modern forensic theories and discoveries, modern research techniques and local knowledge to sometimes find aspects of a crime that haven’t been touched on since the incident happened, or offer new ideas about a cold case.
