Julie is a papercutting artist with over 10 years’ experience, finding calm in the intricate rhythm of handcrafting. Originally from southern England, she moved to Argyll in 2022 with her family, where the landscapes inspire much of her work.
She began papercutting to pursue a hobby she could do at home around her children.
Each piece is a patient, detailed creation, drawn and cut by hand using a scalpel. Julie loves all things crafting but there is something about creating with paper that is very mindful – a quiet celebration of nature and the beauty found in slowing down to make by hand.
She has recently introduced the use of locally made seaweed paper to her creations, which give them a bit of depth and texture.
The designs are sometimes simple and geometric, cut from a single piece of white paper – whilst others are layered collages of cosy, countryside scenes.
